NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Metallic Liquid Lipstick in Pure Society

Hey guys! I really need to stop promising to regularly update this blog because with how crazy, unpredictable, horrible, and lovely life has been for the past few months I've continued to need to focus on myself and my future which consequently has left little physical or mental time for this blog.  However things have been a bit better lately and as a result....here is an update! From now on the only thing I can promise is that I haven't forgotten about this little project and I will continue to bring you updates on makeup whenever I am able.
Amazingly an Ulta has opened in my tiny rural hometown which of course required a visit.  One of the items I picked up was one of NYX's new liquid suede metallic liquid lipsticks.

I chose the color pure society because, well, look at it! This shade is an absolutely gorgeous metallic berry and I am so in love.  When I put this one I feel like this color was made for me.  It goes so well with my skin and the metallic effect is purely magical.  However while this color is beautiful....DO NOT EAT WITH THIS ON.  Oh my goodness, I had a breakfast sandwich while wearing this and I ended up with berry lipstick everywhere except on my lips.  It was on my chin, my nose, my sandwich, and all around my mouth. It was a mess.....
I honestly wasn't expecting this to happen as it does not transfer when kissing your hand but add the tiniest bit of oil into the equation and this lipstick is destroyed.

Overall I love this color and I love the price, I am just severely limited in when I can wear it as it cannot involve eating of any kind.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Dopey and Cheap Thrills

Hey! First actual review post in waaaaayyyy too long! I thought it fitting to do this review on some products that I use almost daily.  I fell in love with colourpop quite some time ago when I tried out their eyeshadows and their ultra matte lipsticks.

So today I will be sharing with you two ultra matte lips: Cheap Thrills and Dopey, plus a bonus swatch of one of their eyeshadows in Girl Crush!

Cheap Thrills is a ridiculously lovely matte mauvey purple.  I wear this when I was something a bit more muted but am feeling a bit more adventurous.  It is just purple enough to turn heads but not too intense that it is work inappropriate.  This will last through drinking and most meals however anything too greasy will result in some fading, so bring it with if you plan to grab a greasy breakfast sandwich before work! As you can probably tell from the product picture, the silver on the packaging will get scratched off if you frequently toss your products in your purse or travel bag.  This doesn't bother me but it may bother some.

Dopey is my new everyday lipstick.  It is my current My Lip But Way Better shade right now.  If I am just throwing on some quick powder foundation and mascara this is what I will probably be throwing on my lips as well.  Additionally this tends to be my go to when I do more intense eye looks.  Its staying power is pretty much the same as Cheap thrills, perhaps a little better.

And here is the eyeshadow I have on in the two previous pictures.  This has become my everyday eyeshadow as well, whether I put it on all by itself or I use it as a base for more interesting looks, I have already hit pan on this baby. It is a gorgeous matte greyish taupe color.  I love it for my cool pinkish toned skin.

The best thing about Colourpop though has to be the price.  Their Ultra Matte Lips are $6 and their shadows are $5 and they are almost always running some kind of deal or discount.  I really can't recommend this brand enough.

Mary Kay Pink Satin

I just realized I never did a review on this Mary Kay lipstick!  This is one of the last ones I purchased before giving up on being consultant due to moving to a city for graduate school.  Before I purchased Pink Satin I did not own a single high end nude shade. Because of samples I knew I already liked this color so I had no doubts about adding it to my collection!

This is a really nice color to throw on when I find myself wearing a dark outfit with dark eyes.  It is soft and subtle and gives my lips a nice pink tint all day.  The only issue I have with it would be more my own skin's fault than my own.  As the day wears on and my foundation begins to fade it looks very odd compared to my naturally pink skin, so I try to only wear this if I know I won't be in a situation that will compromise the integrity of my foundation.  Additionally as you can tell from the image if your lips are super  chapped this won't look great up close, but from a distance any lip imperfections are barely noticeable.

Overall this is a pretty decent light pink shade that I would give a try if you find yourself at a Mary Kay party!

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick Weirdo

I do own some decent black lipsticks but nothing that I would feel 100% comfortable wearing for an extended period of time.  Therefore I figured Weirdo would be a good investment for me.  I don't wear black often, but when I do it is a color that I definitely want to last for as long as possible.  Black can get EVERYWHERE....on your teeth, on your chin (darn you sandwiches!), and on your boyfriend.

What makes this black even better is that it's matte! Yay! I was in a bit of a rush to take this picture so it is not quite at its full matte potential in the swatch or close up lip picture.
As far as application, I feel this lipstick could be better.  The doe foot applicator is much more difficult to use than Kat Von D's. I have a hard time getting a smooth sharp line, which is very important for a lipstick as dark as this.  It definitely takes me a while to apply this lipstick as I have to be very careful and take time to correct the mistakes I will inevitably make.  It also gets all over my teeth, but a simple clean off will fix that.  After the lipstick dries though, you are set!  It is transfer proof and smudge proof!  It does take a few minutes to dry, but once you get over the hassle of applying and drying it really stays put!

Do I think this lipstick is worth $18? Yes, I think the staying power makes it worth that, especially since there aren't too many awesome matte blacks out there.  It is a little cheaper than Kat Von D's brand which makes sense to me as I do feel the application is a lot more difficult. Overall I love this lipstick and even though I won't wear it super often, I can feel secure whenever I do.

The website says it can also be used as a liquid liner so I will definitely have to try that out as well!

Shiro Cosmetics A Girl and A Cat Tinted Balm

I am embarrassed to admit how long I've had this lip balm and kind of forgot it existed....I recently found it again and remembered how adorable it was!  I am a bit bummed that Shiro got rid of their opaque lip products and now only offers these lip balms or glosses.

I had to get this one as its Kiki's Delivery Service themed which is one of my all time favorite movies.  I even cosplayed as Kiki last year! How can I say no to a purple lip product with a picture of Jiji on it? I can't.
This applies very easily and definitely leaves more pigment on the lips than the hand swatch would lead one to believe.  As you can see it turns my lips a very pleasant berry shade. I think it is very flattering and is a perfect choice for days I want to add color but not deal with lip upkeep.  It will last a few hours as long as you don't eat so I generally only throw this on if I won't be eating for a bit. It is very moisturizing and feels nice on the lips. It also has a slight smell to it, the website says its vanilla, its very nice and not overpowering.

I would definitely recommend these lip balms if you like this kind of lip product finish! They are all so fun and Miyazaki themed.  I'd probably own them all if they were matte liquid lipsticks! Unfortunately tinted balms aren't my go to, but I will enjoy this one. If I ever did buy another it would probably be the Princess Mononoke themed With Eyes Unclouded deep red shade.

J Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paints in Spoke Fancy,Talking Flowers, and Splashed

I already own a few other shades of J Cat's lip paint so when I got a discount from their online store through Ipsy I decided to place another order for 3 more!
These lip paints are a long lasting and affordable lip tar dupe.  They are obviously not near as high quality as OCC's lip tars but are a good alternative if you don't have the money for the high end version.

I decided on Spoke Fancy, Talking Flowers, and Splashed.

Spoke Fancy is an absolutely gorgeous deep almost metallic berry.  This shade goes on like a dream.  After blotting it is even and provides a pigmented opaque color.  It also lasts all day for me with only minor fading in the center if I eat a particularly greasy meal. I reach for this shade the most out of these three.

Splashed is a mid toned blue that I picked up mostly for mixing purposes.  When added to pinks and reds it helps give them a more purple hue.  Unfortunately this lip paint really doesn't work on its own.  Unlike the others I own it fades quickly and easily.  I'm not sure what makes this formula so different but it only looks like the above picture for about an hour regardless of eating or drinking.

The finaly shade I bought is Talking Flowers.  This is a pinkish purple that looks really great with dark clothing and eye makeup.  It adds a gorgeous pop of color that is wearable yet still unique.  It also lasts all day except for fading in the middle after some meals.
As a side note these lip paints NEED to be blotted after applying as they tend to go on way to thick, at least for me.

I am still a fan of J Cat's lip paints, even if they aren't as long lasting as lip tars.  They are so so so affordable and last pretty long for the price, especially compared to drugstore brand lipsticks at similar prices.
If you want to try out a liquid lipstick for the first time to see if its for you or if you really want a color mixing purposes but can't see spending a fortune on an odd color like yellow or blue, then I would definitely recommend giving these a try!

Colourpop Lippie Stix in Feminist

With my latest Colourpop order I also purchased a single Lippie Stix.  I already have small ones that I got from a friend for Christmas so I knew I loved the formula and wear time.  I decided on Feminist because it was much darker than any of the Lippies I already had and also I do not own a matte purpley black.  With fall coming up I figured this would be a great purchase!

So when I swatched this on my hand I was nervous because it applies fairly patchy and not super opaque, especially when next to the new Ultra Matte lippies. Luckily the lip application is another story!  This glided on so smoothly and covered wonderfully.  It goes on very opaque and pigmented.  It also stays nice and creamy on my lips without just sliding off all over the place. I do have to say...the website said it was matte but it definitely has a satin finish, but no matter I still love it!  I think it goes amazing with my hair, and I'll definitely be pulling this out as the weather gets chillier.

Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lipstick in Tulle, Trap, Koala, and Mars

I was super excited for these Ultra matte lipsticks as soon as I heard about them for the first time.  I LOVE matte lipsticks, especially in a liquid formula, plus they are only $6! You really can't go wrong.  The only thing that could make something like that more perfect was if they were super opaque and lasted for hours.......oh wait! ;P

This formula is the bomb.  The lipsticks go on opaque and completely even for the lighter colors.  There is a bit of uneven color for the darker ones but another coat would fix that right up! Its honestly not even that noticeable in person so I don't bother with a second coat. These stay put on my lips for hours.  The only time they start to die is when I eat something greasy, but even then they hold up really well! I had the Pizza Hut lunch buffet and Mars was faded in the middle of my lips but from a distance, you could barely even tell I just devoured way too much greasy pizza goodness. Also they are transfer proof! I can kiss my boyfriend on the cheek as much as I want to and he won't get covered in lipstick! For $6 these are 110% worth every penny.  My only complaint would be the dryness, I may have trouble pulling these off in winter.

Tulle is a gorgeous deep brownish red.  It is absolutely gorgeous and will be amazing for fall. I could see this pairing with almost any of my fall outfits and I'm sure in a few months it will be an every day lipstick for me.

Trap is a very interesting slightly purple nude.  In yellow light it looks brown but in natural light the purple comes out a lot more.  I really adore it as a nude and can see wearing this with a dark smokey eye often.

Koala is a light pinkish purple.  This is honestly one of my least favorites because based on swatches I though it was be a bit more purple on me and less pink.  I think it makes my skin tone look a bit weird so I'm not sure where and when I'm going to be able to wear this. I don't mind how it looks in the pictures I took however so maybe I'm being too negative about it and it actually looks just fine, haha!

Mars.  An absolutely stunning deep pinkish red. I am in love with this shade and it is probably my favorite.  I wasn't even going to get it initially and just threw it in my cart last minute. I love this shade because it is bold and in your face but also goes with a lot of outfits.  I've worn this with all black, light green, purple....just....it somehow looks awesome no matter what I'm wearing.  I'm in love.

Overall I would recommend these, they have a great formula and the quality is fantastic for the price! <3

Colourpop Cosmetics Super Shock Eye Shadow in Liberty and I Heart This

When I placed my Colourpop order for the 4 Ultra Matte lipsticks I wanted I needed to put a few more things in my cart to get free shipping so of course I had to give their eye shadows a try!  I heard some good things about their Super Shock shadows and while I like my lips matte I tend to prefer my eyes to obnoxiously sparkle. Oh boy do these deliver.

I decided to get Liberty, a very metallic silver and I <3 This, a shimmery taupe.

Yes I <3 This does have the same name as the pink lipstick I swatched a while back.  It confused me too at first when I was looking up swatches. These swatches are with two coats over no primer.

Liberty is basically tin man silver. It is intense, its shimmery, and its oh so metallic. I love it. It really makes my eyes pop and while it is an intense true silver, I don't think it is all that crazy looking with a bit of a dark matte shadow blended into the crease. It provides a very wearable pop of metal! The formula itself is like butter.  You apply these using the finger so all it takes is to lightly swipe your finger in the shadow and then dab it on the lid.

I didn't do my whole lid with I <3 This because this is the way I see myself wearing it most often, at the inner corner blended into another sparkly pop of color.  It is much more neutral and less intense and metallic than Liberty, but that also makes it an amazing every day shadow.  I was hoping it would be a bit more on the grey side, instead I think it is much golder than I was thinking.  I still think it looks great on me though so I will definitely be getting use out of it!

Overall these shadows are great and I will definitely be buying more if I ever make another Colourpop order!

Urban Decay Revolution High-Color Lipgloss in Bittersweet

Sephora was giving out these mini Urban Decay lip glosses in Bittersweet when you entered a specific coupon code upon checkout.  I absolutely loved NYX's intense butter glosses so I had to try out Urban Decay's new competitive release! The tube itself is very nice looking for a sample size.  It is just as decorated as the full sized tubes.  There also seems to be a decent amount of product inside so I would assume this will last me quite some time.

I had talked a bit about Urban Decay's new glosses in my last Ipsy glam bag post so I'll just do a quick run through.   They apply easily and pigmented.  They last for a long time as far as glosses go (3-4 hours for me) and keep my lips moisturized.  the only downside...if you do not like sticky glosses you will not like these. This color in particular is hard ot get even, I didn't have that problem with the lighter Failbait but I have to use a decent amount of this to build up to a solid more opaque color. Overall I like these glosses but I probably would not buy any more as they are not offering any truly unique colors.

Because I also own NYX's purple gloss, Berry Strudel, I decided to swatch them side to side for you to see.  I had thought Bittersweet was purple but after putting it next to Berry Strudel which is a very true purple it looks way more plummy in comparison. NYX's gloss is much more opaque after only one application and is also much much more affordable.  The only categories UD really wins in with this gloss is the longevity and packaging. With NYX's really great intense butter glosses out there I see no need to spend 3 times as much on UD's version.  Unfortunately the formula is not good enough to justify the price when compared with NYX, even if the packaging is really pretty.

NYX Butter Lipstick in Hunk

A few months ago I got a butter lipstick in my Ipsy bag but unfortunately it was not the color I wanted.  Therefore as soon as they listed all the possible colors as point prizes I snatched up Hunk for 500 points!
I really like this formula and am so glad to have both Pops and Hunk in my collection.

Hunk is a semi opaque plum that I feel looks lovely with my skin color and makes my makeup instantly look more summery and bright. Because it is not fully opaque this color looks a bit lighter on my skin than on my lips so keep in mind that if you are darker or paler than me it may look a bit different.
These lipsticks are very creamy and moisturizing, and despite that they actually have good staying power! Hunk in particular leaves behind a beautiful stain that lasted about 3 hours on me until I ate.  I definitely think it had the potential to last longer if I hadn't gotten some lunch.  I definitely do not regret spending my Ipsy points on this!

Did you notice those earrings I have on? I just so happened to have made them today! I bought some wire wrapping materials recently and these earrings were my absolute first attempt at wire wrapping. I just searched wire wrap earrings on Youtube and altered one of the first results that came up to fit what kind of beads I had.  It was a lot more difficult than I was expecting.  I had thought I had bought good wire at Michael's since it was so darn expensive but it breaks really easily and the slightest touch of my tools makes the orange underneath the silver poke through. :(
Otherwise, despite these earring's shortcomings they actually look pretty cute as long as you don't get super close to inspect their imperfections.

Next I made a wire wrap ring using a seashell my boyfriend gave to me from The Outer Banks. I didn't follow a tutorial for this one, I just winged it.  One of my lipstick tubes was the same size as my ring so I used that as my base and just wrapped and wrapped and eventually came out with something that worked.

I am having lots of fun with wrapping and will definitely be doing more! :)

Kat Von D Ink Liner in Woolf

Well it's over...my week long of non stop studying is done and my exam is over.  Hopefully I passed.
To celebrate here is a little review for you guys! I'm going to be spending the next few days relaxing with my boyfriend before my lab rotation begins.  Yay!

Today I'm reviewing an eye liner that I got a little bit ago that I have seriously been loving.  Introducing Kat Von D's Ink Liner in Woolf!
When she posted her new liquid liner swatches on Instagram I knew I had to have Woolf for two reasons.  One I love grey.  It is my brown.  I've been wanting a more muted liquid liner for quite some time. Second I wrote a 10 page paper on Virginia Woolf for AP English back in high school so she holds a special place in my heart. Haha!
In the swatch above I drew three lines, the top is the thickest I could get in one stroke, the middle is a natural line, and the bottom is the thinnest line I could do consistently.

I like this liner because it is absolutely perfect for when I am wearing light clothing and also want to do my makeup a bit lighter.  Sometimes bold black wings just don't work....so for that time I can do bold grey wings! Yay!
Now what I like about this is that it goes on smoothly, its easy to control, and I can get a super tiny point with it. The color is opaque and will go over eye shadow.  Even eye shadows that are a darker color!
What I don't like about it is that it is a bit hard to get a thick line.  The felt tip brush is so thin that coloring in thick bold wings and liner can be a bit annoying and time consuming.
Overall I really like this liner and would have bought more if some of the other colors appealed to me a little better.  With that price tag I can't afford to be buying them willy nilly.
On my lips is Revlon Balm Stain in Honey,

Just because its a more muted liner color doesn't mean you can't have some fun with it!

Rimmel London Provocalips 16Hr Kissproof Lip Colour in Kiss Fatal

A friend of mine had heard some great things about Rimmel's new Provocalyse liquid lipsticks so I decided to pick one up based on her recommendation.
I am definitely glad I did!

This product is pretty interesting.  One half is color and the other half is a clear top gloss.  I chose the color Kiss Fatal, a nice plummy color.

First you apply the color which goes on and dries to a satin finish.  Unfortunately you can't stop here as it is extremely sticky when you put your lips together. You have to then top it with the clear gloss which takes away all the stickiness and prevents drying.

And here it is with the gloss applied! I do wish it was wearable without the gloss but it is nice having a super long wearing lipstick that isn't matte. You are supposed to reapply the gloss part whenever your lips start to feel dry and they claim the color will last for 16 hrs.  That's a pretty steep claim.  Yes it will last for 16 hrs but it won't look great after that time.  It does last however.  I've eaten food and drank beverages and it still looked pretty darn good after a solid 8 hours.  This is a pretty awesome product if you don't want to pay a lot for all day wear.  I do want to warn that it may be very drying for those prone to that sort of thing.  My mom said her lips dried out pretty bad after a few hours while I didn't experience this at all.

Here is my face after 10 hours of wear and no touch ups. In this time I ate lunch and dinner and drank water throughout. As far as looks, it has faded a bit but the fading is very even. The shine is gone which I could definitely feel as my lips were a bit sticky.  If I would have applied the gloss half way through I'm sure my lips would look just as perfect as when I applied it.

If they had a more unique color selection I may have gotten more than just this one, as I do really like the formula, finish, and staying power.
The super impressive lasting power however might be enough to convince me to pick up at least one more in the future.

NYX High Voltage Lipstick in Playdate

As soon as NYX revealed they were releasing a pure lavender lipstick I knew I HAD to have it. It was sold out at my "local" ULTA so I had to order online and it has finally arrived!

This color is so so so so so beautiful.  Sometimes lavenders do not work well with my skin tone but this one must be more blue toned than yellow because I do not feel like it makes me look dead or washes me out at all.  It just looks very nice and beautiful.  It covers opaquely, evenly, and easily.  It doesn't dry out my lips and lasts for a decent 3-4 hours depending on if I'm eating anything.  A lip liner and/or gloss may be able to extend the wear even further.

Overall I love this color and will be getting a lot of use out of it this summer.

NYX Slim Lip Pencil in Blackberry

I know...so many NYX posts lately...They're my favorite drugstore brand so I won't apologize!
I was intrigued by NYX Cosmetic's affordable mostly matte black lip liner pencil as I've never seen this color being sold at an affordable price.
The main reason I picked this up was to use under my NYX Wicked Lippie in Cold Hearted. I really didn't want to spend a ton of money on a lip liner meant for one specific lipstick so Blackberry is prefect!

I won't lie, this looks a bit weird when worn alone. Then again it is a lip liner so its not meant to perform amazing by itself.  Also I know I look very strange in matte black lipstick.  I definitely need the shimmer provided by Cold Hearted in order to pull it off.
I really have no complaints regarding this lip liner.  It goes on easily and mostly opaque, it helps my wicked lippie last longer, and its a great price!
If you are looking for a black lip liner I would definitely consider Blackberry!

NYX Cosmetics White Liquid Liner

I've been looking for an affordable white liquid eyeliner for a long time and to my glee NYX delivered!! As soon as I saw this at ULTA I had to grab it.  No more are the days of attempting to awkwardly get a thin white line with a not so thin white pencil liner.

I was pretty bummed that its in a brush cap type packaging instead of a marker pen.  However I am decent at using their glitter liners in the same type of packaging so I was hoping it would not be a big deal.

So here is a pretty over the top look I attempted.  For anyone interested on my lid is Cosmic and in my crease is Eclispe, both from BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Palette. For the liner I put down the white liquid liner first then went over it with a black liquid liner.

I'm going to review this liner using a Pro and Con type of setup...

Pros:
Goes over dark eye shadow with no problem whatsoever
Dries quickly
Stays all day
affordable

Cons:
A bit watery
cracks a bit
hard to evenly apply another color of liquid liner on top of it
gets all over lashes
hard to control

The cons do outweigh the pros but I think this eyeliner has a time and a place so I do not regret buying it.

Here is a close up of how it gets all over your lashes making them stiff.  Mascara application becomes difficult because of this and its hard to cover up.

Overall this would be a nice liner for little white accents but because of its unfortunate cons I will not be attempting difficult and extravagant white liner techniques with this.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw

Today I have for you one of my favorite lip colors out of Sephora's Give me More Lip set from 2014. Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw! This red rivals MAC's Russian Red for me, that's how much I like it!

It has the same bold red color that is pretty much universally flattering.  It actually beats out Russian Red as far as application.  The doe foot applicator makes it easy to apply while I need to break out my lip brush to use Russian Red.  It lacks a bit in the matte factor so I feel like that aspect is what really sets them apart.  If I want matte I'll reach for Russian Red, if I'm feeling more of a satin finish I'll grab this one.  I have not experienced much bleeding with this and it is also not too drying.  The staying power is just as good as Russian Red.  I can eat a meal, brush my teeth, do a bit of light kissing...and it will stay put! Whether you need your lipstick to last through hours of dancing or work, this will definitely do the trick! I've never used any other colors from their liquid lipstick collection so I cannot compare its performance to other shades. However it is definitely superior to their Studded Kiss lipstick line.

Overall I'm a fan and based on this I would buy more from this collection.

Benefit Posie Balm

It seems I've subconsciously decided to review my least favorites from the Sephora give me more lip set first.  This one was a huge fail for me in so many ways but I also hate lip products of this type so I'm a bit biased.

The color is ok I guess...if I hadn't had to swipe it over my lips 5 times to get a bit of pigmentation out of it.  WHY WOULD ANYONE PAY THIS MUCH FOR A BARELY TINTED CHAPSTICK. I just don't understand.  I really don't.  If this was like $4 I'd be giving it a pretty decent review.  I just don't get why anyone would pay this much for a short lasting spec of moisturizing color. Anyway besides the fact that it only lasts an hour and that the pigmentation barely exists look how tiny the amount is that Benefit provided for this sample!! Every other lip product in the box has a generously decent sized amount of product.  The tube in the picture is turned all the way up.  Combine that with the fact that you have to rub this vigorously on your lips to get any color out of it I'll probably use this up in like 3 applications. What the heck Benefit.

On a happier note I am digging using NYX cosmetics glitter liner in crystal pewter as a pop of sparkle on top of my black liquid liner.

Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Tint in Moody

I received the Sephora Give Me More Lip set for Christmas so I will be slowly swatching and reviewing the contents!  So far I'm pleased with it however there are definitely some shades and formulas that I am not a fan of.  This is one of them.

While I could see this easily appealing to a lot of people the formula just isn't my style.  Its slightly see through instead of opaque and shiny instead of matte.  I just don't feel like myself when I put it on.  It didn't seem drying but it also didn't have the greatest of staying power, which it definitely should for the price.  The color itself is ok but for some reason I just wasn't feeling it.  I don't see myself reaching for this one often.  I actually have yet to try anything by Tarte that I love....
