Have a Happy New Year and Play Pokemon Art Academy!

I havn't posted in a bit and I probably won't have a new update until after the new year...sorry about that.  I'm just very busy between prepping for Christmas, cleaning up from Christmas, seeing my friends and boyfriend, and enjoying New Years.  I got some sweet makeup for xmas so look forward for some new product reviews!! I'm so excited to try everything out! :)

I can share with you however some art I've been creating in the game I got for Christmas, Pokemon Art Academy.  Oh my gosh its so fun.  I havn't gotten super far yet but here are the two favorite pictures I've drawn so far:

Chimchar!

And Eevee!!

I will have to say I don't know how fun this game would be for someone who has no drawing experience...but for me who does a lot of art on Photoshop I think the interface of this game is very nice.  Lineart goes on a separate layer so you can color under the lines.  Also you can zoom in pretty far allowing for this game to easily be played on a standard 3DS system, no XL required.  I just completed the exercise with the opacity tool and had a difficult time...in Photoshop, I'm used to putting the opacity super low and building slowly, but even on the lowest setting in this game I feel it builds up really fast.  I may need to practice more...or just stick to cell shading, we shall see.  Regardless, if you love Pokemon and you have any sort of artistic ability whatsoever I would definitely recommend this game! <3

Ipsy Glam Bag December 2014 Review

Well...another month...another Ipsy review starting with a rant. Sigh.  I've been a subscriber for 1.5 years and EVERY time I get a nude lip product I rate it "not for me" and EVERY time I get a bold or bright lip product I rate it "love it".  Yet out of the 4 shades of NYX Butter Balms, which do I get? Take a guess....the nude.   I am so pissed.  My mom who doesn't even like bright lip colors got the hot pink. Customization, yeah freaking right Ipsy. I'm pretty disappointed this month. Nevertheless...here we go....

As you can see I switched out my gross Marshmallow nude balm for Parfait with my mom.
The bag this month is super adorable. It a black pouch with a pink zipper and heart keychain. I will definitely be reusing!

1. Beauty Without Cruelty Facial Cleanser

"Beauty Without Cruelty 3% A.H.A. Facial Cleanser is a lightly-foaming, soap-free cleanser that removes dead surface skin cells, daily impurities, and excess oil without over-cleaning your skin. Nature's own alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) gently and deeply clean and actively clarify your skin without disturbing it's natural balance. Pure premium Oshadhi aroma-therapeutic essential oils tone, condition, and calm, leaving your skin clean, clear, and refreshed."
3/5

First the good:  It cleanses? So that's a plus I suppose. The smell is also ok, not wonderful, just ok.  It smells like some sort of herbal thing, I can't really tell.
The bad: The big one is that its for normal to oily skin and my skin is insanely dry.  Both times I used this even my moisturizer couldn't fend off the nasty dry flakes.  Maybe I'll store this away until summer and try again then, it just isn't good for winter time.  Its also pretty runny, as you can see from my swatch it wouldn't stay put long enough for a picture.

Where to buy: Amazon, Drugstores, Vitamin Shops
Price:  $12 ($2.82)

2. Cailyn Cosmetics Just Mineral Eye Polish in Orchid

"Made with 100% raw mineral powder, this highly pigmented satiny powder not only colors your eyes with shimmery, gorgeous hues, but is also safe to wear long hours. "

4/5

I love everything about this product except the color.  I wish Ipsy would have a nude and a bright option for every eye shadow and lipstick color.  Anyway this is a similar color to the Be a Bombshell eye base thing from last month but the formula and application is miles better.  It applies very easily and opaque with the little applicator and has a foiled finish.  You just dip the brush in and give it a shake to replenish the  color.  This stayed on all day.  I would definitely buy this in a different color if it wasn't so expensive.

Where to buy: cailyncosmetics.com
Price: $15

3. NYX Butter Balm in Parfait (switched for Marshmallow)

"Dip your lips in a sheer wash of color with NYX Butter Lip Balm. One swipe leaves dry lips feeling supple and hydrated."

4/5

This probably would have gotten a 2/5 if I wouldn't have been able to switch with my mom but because I really like the new color I'm rating it high.  Besides it being a very nice shade, it is also very moisturizing, comfortable on the lips, and long lasting for a balm.  The only con would be the chubby stick makes precision application difficult.

Where to buy: NYXcosmetics.com, Ulta, Drugstores
Price: $4

4. StyleSexyHair 450 Blow Out Spray

"Protect those tresses! Sexy Hair’s 450° Blow Out Heat Defense Blow Dry Spray protects hair from heat damage up to 450°F. In addition to outstanding thermal protection, it also conditions for smooth, sleek styles, detangles for improved manageability and strengthens hair. Helps to decrease blow dry time and adds weightless shine."

I can't rate this because I can't use it.....

I don't blow dry my hair and I haven't straightened it since getting my pixie 2 years ago. I don't even own a hair dryer.  I tried spraying it in my hair before styling normally but it did nothing.  Guess this one is going to my mom or a friend who uses a blow drier.....:/

Where to buy: Sexyhair.com, Ulta
Price: $19 ($7.69)

5. Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara

"Like a pushup bra for your lashes, tarte’s best-selling mascara lengthens, curls, volumizes and conditions to deliver a 330% increase in lash volume instantly. The high-performance formula is also infused with naturally-derived olive esters to help nourish and protect lashes. "

4/5

I don't really have any complaints here...it isn't too wet, it isn't too dry.  It lengthens and adds volume.  It loses a point because for me Urban Decay's Perversion is my 5/5 mascara and it isn't quite as good. Otherwise its a pretty solid mascara!

Where to buy: Sephora, Ulta, tartecosmetics.com
Price: $20 ($8.33)

Total price of this month's bag comes to $37.84, a bit lower than usual but still over 3x what you pay.  Kinda sucks that I can't use one of the products though. I hate when that happens but I guess its just the luck of the draw.

Zoya Nail Design Using Belinda and Lux

Now that its fall I can once again start wearing all the dark wintery Zoya nail polishes I got last year for Christmas! This week I used Zoya's Belinda and Lux to do a super cute dark purple with a silver sparkle accent.

This was one of my first times using tape to try and create a nail design.  The last time I tried the results were horrible and the polish got under the tape and it was worthless. I don't know if I have better tape now or if the chunky sparkles work better for this kind of thing but it worked perfectly this time!
I think for Christmas Lux will look perfect in this same design over a nice sparkly red. :)

Mary Kay Lip Gloss in Berry Dazzle and Red Passion

While I no longer am selling Mary Kay, I do still love many of their products.  My mom recently made a purchase from a consultant and the free gift at the moment is a set of 6 mini lip glosses! It is seriously so cute!  Well my mom dislikes crazy sparkle glosses so she let me take my two favorites, the two sparkliest and most pigmented of the bunch, Berry Dazzle and Red Passion.

I've always preferred Mary Kay glosses over a lot of others for their pigmentation, longevity, and feel on the lips. These two are no different.  Berry Dazzle, a brand new shade (which I am a bit sad about because I think it replaced Berry Tart, my all time favorite gloss) is a sparkly raspberry gloss with specks of orange and blue glitter. While Red Passion is a reddish orange gloss with orange and pink glitter.  The glosses pictured are just sample sizes, the full size is much larger.

erry Dazzle is very very nice on its own.  It offers great pigmentation and coverage for a gloss and I don't think the sparkles are too out of line for this season. These glosses apply easily and don't feel sticky.  The smell is a big strange, but it's not bad.

I did a wear test with Berry Dazzle and after 4 hours of wear the  color was faded as expected but a pleasant and even pink tint was left on the lips with a trace of sparkle.  Even after devouring a sandwich right after this picture a bit of tint was still left behind.

Next is Red Passion, this one existed back when I was a consultant but I never actually tried it until now.  I'm sad that never occurred because I looove this gloss. I don't think I'd wear it alone very often because when I wear red I like to go bold not subtle, so fortunately it looks amazing over a red lipstick! Perfect for Christmas!

As pictured here.  I applied Red Passion over J-Cat Beauty's Lip Paint in Red Potion, creating a.....Red Potion of Passion? Haha...

Overall I  really like these glosses and if you go to a party where these are being offered as a free gift with a $40 purchase I think it would definitely be worth it to purchase enough to get these samples! The set also includes a gold shimmer (Beach Bronze), a peachy shimmer (Fancy Nancy), a slightly shimmery pink (shock tart) and a light brownish pink (Cafe au Lait). I am only 90% sure of these other colors though so don't hold me to it! :D

Meet Athena and Artemis My New Rats!

So after years of wanting little ratties of my own I used my birthday money to make it a reality.  I just adopted these two little cuties so prepare to be bombarded with pictures! :)

Athena

She is all white, except for a slight tan marking on her nose, with red eyes.  She is supposed to be a fancy rat but I think she may have some dumbo in her as her ears are much more to the side than her sisters. She is extremely curious but also a little bit shy.

In her Star Wars bed.

Relaxing on my arm the first day I brought her home.

Checking out the new surroundings.

Artemis

She is a fancy rat with black eyes and a tan hood that continues down her back as a stripe.  She is brave but not as curious as Athena.  She likes to eat everything.

Getting used to the cage.

Sniffing me :3

Looking out the cage door.

Now for cuddle pictures! <3

My puppy was and still is very confused....

Look forward to more pictures, I can image that they will randomly be included in some makeup shots :P

A Break From Makeup: 400 Calorie Spinach Lasagna Roll Ups

In today's break from makeup I wanted to share these incredibly easy and insanely delicious vegetarian pieces of heaven.

I was looking online for a good lasagna roll up recipe because I live alone and I like cooking meals for one.  I get sick of leftovers really fast so a six serving pan of lasagna sits in my fridge forever and eventually goes bad :(
Anyway I found a decent one that included spinach but as with a lot of these recipes two roll ups were pushing 600+ calories! I usually like to keep each of my meals at 500 calories or less so I decided to try and make a lower calorie version of these cute roll ups.

Recipe screenshot and calorie count thanks to MyFitnessPal!

I decided to take the route of simple and delicious.  I skipped the eggs because I didn't think they were really necessary and also because I'm only making two so I'd have to use like 1/3 of an egg.  I also used cream cheese instead of ricotta cheese because I didn't have any ricotta. I think ricotta is lower cal than cream cheese but the cream cheese tasted so good and unique I'm not sure I'd sacrifice the taste for a few less cals :P

If you aren't a huge sauce person you could probably get away with a bit less than half a cup. I love sauce and still had some left over on my plate.

I also didn't measure out the spinach so I don't think I used quite half a cup but next time I will definitely be adding more.

To make these I first boiled the lasagna noodles then laid them out flat.  I spread the mixture of Italian cheese, cream cheese, and spinach onto each noodle, then carefully rolled them up.  I then dumped a bit of sauce in the bottom of a toaster oven safe bowl, placed the roll ups in seam down, and poured the rest of the sauce on top of them.
I sprinkled the rolls with basil and garlic before popping them in my toaster oven, uncovered. The seasonings  could have also gone inside the mixture but I forgot so they ended up on top.  I baked them at 350 for a bit less than 20 minutes, but if you are using a real oven it may take longer.  Online recipes generally suggested 375 for 25 minutes.

With light versions of the cream cheese, Italian cheese, and sauce this recipe could easily be reduced to only 350 calories or less.

I hope you enjoy this 400 calorie meal as much as I did!

Formula X Nail Polish in Voodoo

While black Friday shopping I picked up one of the $10 black Friday deals at Sephora.  I got the Formula X nail polish duo in Voodoo and Juju.  I plan on giving Juju as a Christmas present so I only have Voodoo to show you today, sorry!
I've been wanting to try Formula X for a while after hearing such great things about its staying power and well...after giving it a try I currently have a love hate relationship with this polish.

Pros:  It is an absolutely gorgeous color.  The pink is so soft and dainty while also having an interesting sheen to it.  Its just so neat! It is also insanely opaque.  I could have only applied one coat to get a full layer of color but out of habit I applied two anyway.  Because of this I could see this being a great polish to do designs with over dark nail colors.  I'm already planning a black nail with pink polka dots look!
Cons:  This has no staying power.  My Zoya polishes usually chip after 3 or 4 days even after doing dishes.  This started to chip after 24 hours. WHAT. I thought oh maybe it's just a fluke and patched up the tips, well every day I've worn it more and more and more chips formed.  I am pretty bummed  that a nail polish at Sephora has the staying power of a drug store polish.

To stop the annoying chipping I patched up the damage as well as I could and added a coat of Zoya's Pixiedust polish in Lux to the tips, creating a super cute sparkly pink manicure.  My nails make me feel like a princess <3

So my final verdict....maybe other Formula X  shades are better but this one is best used for nail designs rather than a simple all over color because of its great coverage but lack luster staying power.
I don't think I'd buy another one of these at full price unless I was sure the staying power would be improved, but at $5 I'm not mad about this purchase

Finals Day Five: Bare Minerals Be Bold

I'M DONE YES I'M SO EXCITED!!!

So I just finished my last final of the semester and I'm pretty sure it went awesome, I felt pretty confident the whole time.  YES!

On the fifth day of finals my grad school gave to me one Pharmacology final and a lipstick in Be Bold.

I don't even know what's going on with this eye look.  I got up earlier than I was expecting so had a bit of time to mess around.  Which is exactly what this was.  I didn't really have an idea going in, I just kept doing things until I wound up with something I liked.
On my lid is Freak from the Electric Palette, I then did the sharp edge at the outer corner with my liquid liner.  After I had them semi even I used Urban Decay's Blackout to do some smudging and blending out from the point and into my crease.  I then smudged BH Cosmetics BHCM18 eye shadow single under my eye. My inner highlight is Whipped Cream by NYX

Be bold is a color I don't wear very often and I'm not sure why.  Bare Mineral's marvelous moxie lipsticks have a pretty good formula to them.  Creamy, non drying, with a good staying power.  This is a nice deep red that feels very comfortable and nice on the lips.  Perhaps its because I tend to gravitate towards matte red lip products that this doesn't get much use, but overall it is a really great lipstick.

I'm so glad to be done with finals.  Now it's time to pack up, go home, spend time with my boyfriend and family....and possible bring home some new little friends ;)

Finals Day Four: Ulta Lip Liner in Punch

After an entire week of studying I finally took a final today.

On the fourth day of finals my grad school gave to me one physiology final with a contour lip liner in punch.

For my eye look...I kept seeing a double liner like this being done by a few Instagram beauty pages I follow so I decided to give it a go.
I started by putting Shiro Cosmetics Mother of Dragons in my crease and under my eye, then blending it out.  Then I covered my lid in Haywire by NYX.  Next I took Black Out by Urban Decay and lightly dabbed it around my upper and lower lashline, blending it out.  Then I grabbed my Ulta Kohl liner in Halo (I thin its discontinued) and thickly lined my upper lashline and inner corner. I finished up the look by drawing a wing with my Jesse's Girl liquid liner.

As for the lip, I wear this under my red lipsticks all the time but realized that I'd never worn it alone.  For how cheap this lip liner is ($7 but usually a discount) it works really well. It glides on smoothly and looks creamy enough on the lips to be worn alone. It isn't drying and it has pretty good staying power too.  It only slightly started to fade after about 3 hours and some mac and cheese. These remind me of NYX's lip liners except less drying, which makes sense as they are more expensive.  Overall I would buy more of these.

One final down...only one more to go!!! :D

Finals Day Three: NYX Simply Vamp in Bewitching

Today is a reading day so it's nothing but studying. Sigh.

On the third day of finals my grad school gave to me an entire day of studying with a lipstick in bewitching

Lipstick aside, I looooove this eye makeup.  I feel so bad ass wearing it, especially with a dark vampy lip.  This is especially awesome for those with hooded eyes who want to show off some intense color even with their eyes open.  To get this look I applied strange from the Naked 3 palette all the way up to my brow.  I then put Limit on my lid and drew a wing with my Jesse's Girl liquid liner.  I then grabbed my handy dandy electric palette and smudged Jilted under my eye and wing.  Then I carefully took Urban and put it as close to my lower lashline as possible.  To finish this up I took the tiniest bit of Black Out (Urban Decay single) and dabbed it where the wing meets Urban.

My boyfriend loved this eye look so I'll probably do it again on Saturday when he and my family come to move me home for the semester. :)

As for my red lip of the day, I'm wearing NYX cosmetics simply vamp lipstick in Bewitching.   Its a really nice wearable dark red.  However as a word of caution, make sure your lips are well exfoliated before use as it tends to cling to dry patches.  It is also a bit drying itself....but that color <3

Only two finals and two days until the end of the semester...let's do this!

Finals Day Two: MAC Russian Red

What is finals week without my favorite red lipstick ever? Even more stressful, that's what.

So...on the second day of finals my grad school gave to me a full day of proctoring with a lipstick in Russian Red.

Yep I get to spend 6 hours today standing, walking, and staring at students to discourage them from cheating.  I decided to go with a fierce red lip and winged liner for extra intimidation. After my six hours are done, its back to studying!

So I was originally going to go with just a regular winged liner but I was listening to Kamelot on shuffle while doing my makeup and it inspired me to do something a little more intense.  How can you listen to Karma without wanting to make your eye liner a bit more dramatic? I know I can't.

So anyway, for my eyes I put Strange from Naked 3 all over my lid and brow bone,  I then very lightly dabbed Skinny Dip by NYX on my lid.  As you can see its not really noticeable, I just wanted some sort of change between my lid and brow. I then took my trusty Jesse's Girl liquid liner and drew in my wings.  I'm a little interested to see how well the bottom wing holds up after a few hours.

As for that Russian Red...gah I love it so much.  It has insane pigmentation, its beautifully matte, and it doesn't budge no matter what.  Perfect for a full day of work without any time for breaks or touch ups.  Buy this lipstick. You won't regret it.

Finals Day One: Be a Bombshell Lip Crayon in Hot Damn

So because this is finals week I've decided to wear a red lipstick every day of finals to help improve my confidence and overall fierceness.

So...on the first day of finals my grad school gave to me, one fourth exam and a red lipstick in Hot Damn.
It works...kinda.

Since my fourth physiology exam was early this morning I went with a really easy and colorfully subtle smokey eye with my red lip.  I put a light layer of Urban from the Electric palette all over my lid and crease.  Then I dabbed Haywire by NYX on my lid.  On my lower lashline I smudged out Fringe from the electric palette and then lined my upper lashline with Stila's smudge stick liner in Triggerfish.

As for my lips I first applied lip balm upon waking up because while the staying power and pigmentation of this lipstick is awesome, its also quite drying. Before leaving to take my final I applied Hot Damn by Be a Bombshell cosmetics. Its a orangey red shade that contrasts beautifully with blue clothing.  One layer is all you need and the crayon type  applicator makes this a breeze to put on. I really wish Ipsy would send another round of these lip crayons out, I love the color and pigmentation.

Now back to studying!

Pink and Green Birthday FOTD!

Happy Birthday to me! Even though I have a week worth of finals ahead of me, I never let it get me down.
I was planning on reviewing my Sephora birthday gift for today but because I left it at home, I won't be able to use it until the semester is over...I'm so good at life....sigh.
So instead, in honor of my birthday I wanted to share with all of you one of my favorite looks!

I feel so insanely fabulous every time I wear this.  The colors can also easily be changed up to match whatever outfit you are wearing.
To do this I first put Ever in Your Favor by Shiro Cosmetics all over my eye lid.  Then I take Blackheart from Naked 3 and put it in my crease.  I add a bit of depth to the outer part of my eye using Blackout by Urban Decay.  Next I draw a wing with my (brand new just opened!!!!) Jesse's Girl liquid liner.  I finish it up with a sweep of Fringe from the Electric Palette under my eye.
On my lips is NYX lip liner in Plum with Starlooks Odetta on top.

With a green cardigan and my dark pink Turkish scarf I feel awesome today!

NYX Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Jade

I love NYX's extreme liquid liners so during a 40% off sale I snagged one of their crystal liners as an impulse buy.  I chose the color Jade because it was just so pretty and really caught my eye. This product is basically a liquid glitter liner, sort of like Urban Decay's Heavy Metal liners but not quite as good.  However they are much much less expensive.

Not intended for use around eye....watch out I'm about to be a first world anarchist.

I use this a lot either to enhance my regular liner or to add a bit of glam under my eye.  Since this is not fully opaque it works great over eye shadows.  I like putting green under my eye and then dabbing this on top to create a glitter effect.
As far as comparing it to UD's version, well it stays just as long but the formula does a very strange thing.  Once it dries it gets sort of pulley...I don't know how else to describe it.  You can feel it pull on your eye lid sometimes when you blink or look to the side.  It isn't painful, just sort of annoying, especially if you are the type of person who hates to feel like they are wearing makeup.
If you can get over the weird formula this is a great affordable alternative to the Heavy Metal liners!

Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil in Ultra Olive

My Ipsy post was getting kinda long so I decided to review this item separately.  I didn't get this in my Ipsy bag but my mom did.  She already has a few olive eyeliners so she told me to take it, and since I love Starlooks there was no way I was going to say no!

I'm not usually an olive kind of person but I do rather like this color.  I think it helps bring out the green in my eyes.  Starlooks liners are very buttery and glide on easily, which is very important for me as I hate anything that tugs at my eye.  Full pigmentation can be acquired with only one sweep and they sharpen well.  My only complaint would be the glitter falls out a bit throughout the day because if I wear it under my eyes I get super glam upper cheekbones.  This doesn't bother me too much as I just wipe it away whenever I notice it happening but for someone who can't touch up throughout the day, this may be an issue.

I entered this photo into Ipsy's Starlooks liner contest.  Alas it did not win.  It always seems to be a really crappy low quality pic that wins, maybe I should stop trying so hard....

Starlooks Guilty Pleasure Lip Trio with Charm, Odetta, and Guilty Pleasure

Look what finally came in the mail! Eeh!! Starlooks offered a special Guilty Pleasure lip trio set through Ipsy and for only $24 with free shipping how could I pass up a lip liner, lipstick, and lip gloss!?

The products came in a super cute white bag with a 10% off my next order coupon code.

The lip set included the Guilty Pleasure lip gloss which I received the sample size of in my October glam bag, Odetta a soft pink matte lipstick, and charm a dark lavender lip pencil.

Let's check out some swatches!

I had gotten a nude pink Starlooks liner in a previous Ipsy bag and absolutely loved the formula so I was very excited about getting this.  I think out of the three this is definitely my favorite.  It is such a beautiful matte lavender that I think looks freaking great on me. The formula is very creamy, easy to apply, and can easily be worn alone without appearing dried out and gross like most lip liners tend to look upon solo application. Also obligatory wink to show off my awesome wing.

Next is Odetta, the matte lipstick.  As far as being matte I don't think it really is...the lip liner definitely but the lipstick has a bit of a sheen to it, which overall isn't' a big deal.  I had never tried a Starlooks lipstick so I was quite anxious to give this a try. I wore it out on a walk with my boyfriend and it lasted perfectly throughout our hour walk and my cappuccino. The formula is very impressive, creamy, yet still has enough stick to it that it doesn't just slide right off as soon as I try and drink a coffee.

Because I'm lazy I'm reusing the picture from my glam bag review.  It's the same product so I didn't see a point in taking an all new set of images. Anyway, this lip gloss drove me to buy the lip trio so obviously I like it.  It has decent pigmentation and staying power for a lip gloss and the soft pink can be worn alone or over top of most lip colors so it's very versatile.

Finally the moment you've all been waiting for....all three together! The purple undertones of the lip liner show through even when having a pink lip stick and lip gloss over top, which is awesome because I love purple.  It is a bit darker and less purpleythan the lip swatch they posted to their Instagram, but I still like the color so I'm not going to complain.  These three together definitely create a very nice, sophisticated, natural lip color.  Honestly I can see myself skipping the lip gloss over this and just wearing the lip liner and lipstick together and saving the lip gloss for solo lazy day use. This is mostly just personal preference as when I wear a full face I tend to prefer my lips being as matte as possible.

Here is a side by side of Odetta alone, Charm alone, and then all three together.   I think this helps show how much of Charm shows through in the final look.

And finally here are the swatches after rubbing away at them, as you can see all three even the lip gloss left a stain, yay!   Also this is the lip trio after a few hours and two very delicious spinach lasagna roll ups (excuse the sauce on the corners of my mouth).  It evenly fades to a lighter pink, its nice knowing I can wear this through a meal without getting that dreaded lipstick outline.

The lip trio set is sold out, as per usual with the Ipsy special offers but the individual products can still be purchased.
