Fortune Cookie Soap Welcome Santa Winter Soap Box

It is that wonderful time of the year again when my seasonal Fortune Cookie box arrives! I always look forward to these and now I have officially tried one soap box for each season as I began my subscription this past Spring!
After being a little disappointed with the Fall box I was a bit nervous for the Winter box, but luckily they have really blown me away once again.

So the theme this month is Buddy the Elf! I love that movie, it is so goofy and silly and just a good time all around so I loved the references and the scents and the packaging....and they really nailed it this season.

Buddy Fortune Cookie Soap

Initial: This smells like straight up candy.  It is extremely sweet but I wouldn't expect anything less from a product named after the Elf himself! I enjoy this, its really fun.

In Action: As usually these fortune cookie soaps suds up nicely but do leave your hands feeling a  bit waxy after drying off.  The scent lingers on the hands for a little while afterwards.

Verdict: While I wouldn't want to smell like candy, I'm ok with my apartment doing so, therefore I bought this as a wax tart!

Swirly Twirly Gum Drops Hand Sanitizer

Initial: As usual you can't smell these from the bottle, so you have to use it in order to actually sample the scent.  The hot pink color is pretty cute though!

In Action: Once you put this on and the alcohol evaporates this smells very light and sweet.  The smell is definitely not overpowering, in fact I barely smell it at all so its a nice sanitizer for when you just want sanitation without an overwhelming scent.

Verdict:  It is nice but I can't pick up all the notes that the description claims it has.  I decided to not purchase anything in this scent.

World's Best Cup of Coffee Whipped Cream

Initial: I was excited about this as soon as I read the name. I. Love. Coffee. So upon opening and taking my first sniff I was in love!  I could smell the maple right away.  Although honestly I wish the coffee was a bit stronger because the maple definitely takes center stage, but I love this scent anyway.

In Action: Unfortunately I feel like this smells a bit weird after sitting on my skin for a bit.  It doesn't quite smell like it did out of the jar.  It's not bad, just not as good. However after on the skin for a few hours I think it goes back to smelling good again, kind of odd how it changes but oh well! This also lingered on my skin for hours!

Verdict: I did end up purchasing this in a massage bar and a wax tart because I do really enjoy this scent and I hope they do more coffee scents in the future!

Shower Duet Shave Oil

Initial: Oh no.  This is not for me at all.  I don't like strong tree scents or mint and that is what this is.  I'll suffer through this only to test out the shave oil effectiveness, but if my boyfriend or a family member does not want it, its getting tossed.

In Action: This scent is so hard for me to handle but I did it, I used it.  Personally I really like using shave oil on my armpits, I'm not sure why, I just do. Maybe its because I think its ridiculous to lather up with so much shave foam for such a small area.  Shave oil you only need like 2 drops per pit and you're set, haha! I have only used one other shave oil ever and it was from an Ipsy bag or something and I don't remember the name but this definitely performed just as well. So yes to the product, nooooooooooo to the scent.

Verdict: This scent smells disgusting to me so no, I did not buy. However I like the shave oil formula so I'll probably buy it in another scent in the future.

FCS Cheer Perfume Oil

Initial: I was nervous about the cedar but oh my this is amazing.  The other notes really take center stage here, especially the vanilla.  I am a huge fan of this scent and this is probably my favorite from this box. It smells so much like winter and I've worn this every day since getting my box.

In Action: I swear I put this on at about 12pm and I could still smell it faintly at 9pm.  This scent is gorgeous and I feel like the vanilla comes out even more as it wears with the cedar disappearing completely, so I love this even more after a few hours of wear.

Verdict: I got this as a conditioner bar but now I'm honestly wishing I'd have gotten more.  I still have my $10 coupon so maybe I will get something else!

Yellow Snow Bath Bomb

Initial: This smells oh so very nice.  It is very relaxing and delicate. It is beautifully floral and fruity and man I love my floral fruits hahaha.  A definite win for me.

In Action:

Verdict: This scent is one of my favorites from this box so I bought the perfume oil! :D

Christmas Gram Face Plant

Initial: I've never heard of a product like this so I'm definitely excited to check it out.  As for the scent all I really smell is the lavender portion, but that's not a bad thing as I love lavender!

In Action: So I honestly don't see the point in these.  I filled up my sink with hot water dropped some in and draped a towel over everything.  It smells nice and relaxing, sure, but that was overcome by how uncomfortable it was to bend over a sink and hold my head above the water. I'm not sure how long you need to stay this was to get the pore refreshing effects but I couldn't do it for more than 5 minutes.  These face plants definitely aren't for me.

Verdict: While this scent is nice I personally already have some lavender scented items so I did not purchase.

Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins Dry Shampoo

Initial:  I love dry shampoo so I am very very excited to try this out.  However the shaker jar has me a bit perplexed. I can see myself making a huge mess trying to apply this.  The scent is so light that I can barely smell it.  However the description seems like it would be wonderful so I'm a bit bummed its too light to sample.

In Action: So because of my short hair this shaker bottle is very messy and very hard for me to  use.  I use dry shampoo at the hair by my temples because its the thinniest area so it tends to get greasy easy.  In order for me to apply this directly I have to tilt my head back, but then I can't see where or how much product I'm applying.  If I tilt my head to see, then the powder is hard to drop exactly on the spot without it missing and going everywhere. This is probably hard to picture haha.... but overall I just did not have a good time with this packaging.  Also I felt like it wasn't as effective as spray dry shampoos.  It did a little bit, but my hair still seemed flat.

Verdict:  Because this scent was available in a detergent I decided to try it out.  What I can smell of it is very fresh and lovely so I'm hoping the detergent will be a good choice! I wouldn't buy their dry shampoo however, it just doesn't work with my hair.

The bonus item this season was a candy cane.  Mine got a little smashed in transit but that's ok because I won't be eating it anyway.  I hate peppermint. Bleh.

Anyway! I really adored a lot of the scents from this collection and not only purchased some items for myself but also for some friends!
As usual I can't wait for my next soap box! <3 <3

Want to watch me unbox it?

Fortune Cookie Soap Old Hollywood Fall 2015 Soap Box

It is August and I have received my first Fortune Cookie Soap fall soap box! Unfortunately this box is probably my least favorite for a few reasons. First, the theme just isn't my thing.  I love Alice in Wonderland, I love Peter Pan, but Old Hollywood?  Unfortunately most of the names are lost on me.  Also I just did not appreciate the scents as much.  There are a few I adore but definitely not as many as previous boxes....and its Fall....with no pumpkin spice?! I was a little disappointed.

So the theme is Old Hollywood with some of the names being long, hard to remember, and not making any sense as far as the scents go.

Here is the picture of the whole box!  Overall the presentation is great.  I love the star shaped wax tart and the custom perfume bottle.  The little extra this time was two pearls.  Perhaps I'll turn them into earrings!

Let's get to reviewing!

Dressed To Kill Fortune Cookie Soap

Initial Sniff: Unfortunately the soapy smell overpowers the scent so it is hard for me to really say if I like this one or not....I smell spiced soap.

In Action: It works as all the others have and also makes my sink area smell like spiced soap, which is kinda nice I suppose.

Verdict: The description of this sounded awesome....wine, vanilla, apples.......but I'm really not a fan.

Famous Wax Tart

Initial Sniff: Very lovely. Fruity, spicy, relaxing, fun.  That is what I think of when I smell this. Even though its floral based and not fruity, haha oh well.

In Action:  Watching this melt was really sad because the tart was just so cute and pretty!

Going....going...gone!
But while it disappeared it made my apartment smell nice.  The scent on this one isn't super overpowering and noticeable but it is still nice.

Verdict: I wouldn't get this a wax tart but I'll definitely pick up some things in this scent! One of my favorites!

Glitz & Glamour Hand Sanitizer

Initial Sniff: This is a very light scent so from the bottle all that can be smelled is alcohol

In Action: Once rubbed on to the hands and allowed to dry it smells like.....um...fall spices....I'm not sure.  It is hard for me to pick out notes and the description is moss, wood, and vanilla..... right.

Verdict: Not a fan.

Hollywood Dreams Shampoo Bar

Initial Sniff: Holy crap. This little bar packs so much scent it is ridiculous.  It makes my entire shower smell like sugary sweet graham crackers. I actually can't stand smelling this for too long, it makes me a bit nauseous.

In Action: I LOVE the shampoo bars, they suds up sooo nicely.  I do not think the smell lingers (which in this case, yay!) but my hair is also short so I can't really take a strand of it and sniff.....

Verdict: Nope, once again not for me.  Too eye wateringly sweet and strong.

Pearls & Girls Perfume Oil

Initial Sniff: Oh. So. Lovely. Yes. Sweet fruity delicious pears and comforting vanilla. Amazing.  My absolute favorite scent.

In Action: I don't like the spray bottle....I feel like half hits my wrist and the other half is lost to the air.  The bottle design is adorable though (even if I got it in my least favorite color) would have liked it better as a roller ball. As for the perfume though it smells so lovely and is just so me.  It lasts for at least 4 hours.

Verdict: This is amazing I need this.

American Royalty

Initial Sniff: This smells gross to me.  I can't even describe it, its like sour and weird and just no.

In Action: I don't really feel like this does anything....maybe I'm using it wrong?  I prefer matte hair products as well so I'm not sure I like the shine this adds.  Also I hate the smell so I don't really like using it in the first place.

Verdict: Gross.

Scandal Bath Powder

Initial Sniff: This scent as the weirdest description....how can something smell like creaking woods and windy leaves? To me it smells like a spicy mens cologne.  Personally I'm not a fan.

In Action: I dumped it all in my bath and honestly was a bit underwhelmed.  From how strong this smelled out of the bag I expected it to bring my bath to life but the scent was very weak.

Verdict: Not a fan of the scent and unfortunately not the bath powder either. I wish I'd have tried this before purchasing a full sized bath powder.....but maybe I'll have better luck next time.

Tommy Guns & Baseball Bats Whipped Cream

Initial Sniff: Mmmmmm so warm and comforting, this smells like my grandmothers house during the holidays. Yummy toasted marshmallows is what I smell the most and I love it.

In Action: Makes me smell like sweet deliciousness...oh and moisturizes too!

Verdict: I wouldn't really want to walk around smelling like this in public but as a wax tart it would be AMAZING.

Overall this is definitely my least favorite soap box of the three I've gotten so far.  The scents were just not very me.  Hopefully I'll have better luck with the winter box, however I'm nervous as I absolutely despise peppermint.....

I ended up ordering the following:

Groovy Beech Soap Dish, for my shampoo/conditioner bar

TOMMY GUNS & BASEBALL BATS Talkin' Smack Lip Scrub, because the wax tart was sold out

PEARLS & GIRLS Sugar Scrub, love the scent and haven't tried their sugar scrub

PEARLS & GIRLS Bath Powder, same as above

FAMOUS Foaming Hand Soap, loved the scent, needed more hand soap

FAMOUS Bar Soap, just because!

Fortune Cookie Soap Straight On Till Morning Summer Haul

The long awaited moment (at least for me) has finally arrived! I have received all of my Fortune Cookie Soap summer products and have tried them all out for your reading pleasure! For organizations sake I will be sorting these by scent, let's go!

I had listed in my Soap Box review what all I had ordered and boy am I pleased! I have no regrets and will be enjoying each and every one of these products! Also orders now come with stickers!! So cute!

Let's start with my favorite scent from the summer soap box, The Captain.  It is described as "Dewy magnolias and wild berries drenched with fresh cream".

The Captain Perfume Oil

As soon as I experienced this scent I knew I needed it in a perfume.  While the smell is still lovely the wear time is very very short.  Probably less than two hours unfortunately.  I'm also not a fan of these new spray bottles.  I preferred the old normal jar method and would have liked to see a roller bar option.  I feel like I accidentally waste so much product when I spray it on and miss some of my skin. :(

The Captain Aloe Me

This is something that I'm trying for the first time. I already have a Mist Me and really like it for my hair.  This aloe version uses the same formula except with added aloe for summer! I bought this to ease sunburn pain as I'm super pale and burn in the shade.....sigh.  Anyway I can't say how well it alleviates sun burns but when spraying it on my skin it provides a very soothing cool feeling resulting in soft moisturized skin. The scent unfortunately does not linger for very long.
This label got a bit messed up because of leakage from the deodorant.  Also I'm not sure why this is blue as the shampoo and steamers both are red.

The Captain Veggie Protein Deodorant

Next is the deodorant!  I definitely wanted to get one of these and since I wasn't a fan of the Wendy Bird scent I was so glad they also made it in The Captain.  I have mixed feelings about this product so I'm going to review it in a pro and con type fashion.
Pros: This smells amazing as I already knew it would.  It also goes on and the smell lingers for a LONG time.  At least 5 hours later I was still smelling it.  even though it isn't advertised as an antiperspirant I definitely sweat less when wearing this.  Also the ingredients are very natural and make me feel good about what I'm putting onto my skin.
"This aluminum-free formula contains grapefruit seed extract, which provides natural, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. With summer just around the corner, now's the perfect time to put our new veggie protein deodorant to the test! "Veggie protein deodorant?" Heck yeah!  Featuring a natural protein base that neutralizes odor causing enzymes to simple salt. How cool is that?!
While it's not an anti-perspirant, and it may need to be applied more than once per day, it's an awesome alternative to commercial options. "
Cons: When I received this it was absolutely a mess. It had melted all over my package, destroying its own label and messing with the ink on my Aloe Me.  I was a bit bummed about this as it was a summer release so you'd think the formula would be able to withstand high temperatures.  It hasn't even gone over 85 degrees recently.  The top layer is now a slight slush as you can see in the picture.  I held it in front of my air conditioner and it seemed to start to harden back up a bit. I currently have it in my fridge, hoping it was completely re-solidify and I can apply it from the tube and not with my fingers. Also it is just a boring off white color.  Since the Wendy Bird sample in teh soap box was blue I expected this to be colored as well.

Next up I'll do The Kiss which is the scent that reminds me of Pez candy!
"Exotic watermelon, juicy pineapple and coconut water, bursting with fresh citrus juices"

The Kiss Shampoo and Conditioner Bar

Out of all the products I was getting I was most excited for this one! I have never tried a shampoo or conditioner in bar form and I feel it would work so well with my short hair.  In order to try both at once I opted for the shampoo and conditioner bar mix!
In one word I would describe this as...LOVE.  I rub the shampoo part in my hair and I get a lovely sudsy experience.  After rinsing I rub the conditioning half on my hair and let it sit while I finish my shower, then rinse.  Afterwards my hair is so silky soft and tangle free.  I will definitely be ordering shampoo and conditioning bars in the future! :D

The Kiss Wax Tart

This is also my first time trying out their wax tarts.  I was a bit bummed to see that this one was not colored like all the others...I'm not sure why it isn't.  The Kiss lip balm in the soap box was a pale pink so I expected this to be as well. So far the smell itself doesn't seem to fill the room quite liked I'd hoped but I can still smell it when sitting  near to my candle warmer. I cut off a bit of the corner to place in my warmer and i've gotten quite a few hours of burn out of it already so I'm sure these wax tarts will last me quite a while.

Next up is Lost Boys, my second favorite scent from the summer soap box!
"Golden apricot muddled with fresh, white peaches"

Lost Boys Hydrate Me

I was so excited to try the Hydrate Me.  It works by applying it while still in the shower under running water, massaging it in the skin, and then letting yourself air dry.  I have very dry skin and after a bath or a shower I can sometimes be so dry it hurts.  Well this product has solved my problems forever!! I just roll it on my arms and legs at the end of my shower, rub it in, then get out and let my limbs air dry.  I feel so incredible soft and filled with moisture after.  Its like being covered in smooth silky butter.  Normally I have to apply moisturizer to my hands 1-2 times a day but I went over 2 days without having to reapply moisturizer after using this!  This is a definite absolute staple in my shower now!

Lost Boys Perfume Oil

I also grabbed Lost Boys in a perfume because the peach and apricot combo is just lovely.  This lasts a bit longer than The Captain at about 3 hours.  Still not amazing but for whatever reason Fortune Cookie Soap perfumes generally don't last very long.

The final scent I bought products in was Second Star To The Right.  I between this and Lost Boys as my second perfume and I kind of wish I would have just splurged and gotten three perfumes because this is scent is also so heavenly.
"Crushed berries and mint leaves with a splash of sparkling pomelo, served over iced sugarcane"

Second Star To The Right Wax Tart

I got this scent as a wax tart as well because I can definitely see burning this at night and just relaxing.  The smell is so calming.
This also doesn't have a crazy scent distance but I burn it next to my couch and that's good enough for me.  Once again a tiny little corner is lasting me hours.  These are definitely worth the $2!

Second Star To The Right Linen Spray

And after I'm done burning the tart I can spray my pillow with the Linen Spray and drift off to an aromatic sleep!
Using this makes me regret even more no getting this scent as a perfume.  It is so heavenly.  I spray this on my pillow and it creates an aromatic nighttime experience.  I fell asleep and woke up a few hours later, I'm not 100% on the time that passed because I was dead tired but I could still faintly smell it.  I will definitely be getting more of these.

I am very happy with this order and already can't wait until Fall!
Also they are doing a create your own perfume event soon as well as releasing a Naked collection, which are their same products except scentless so that you can mix your own scent creations from the custom perfumes.  I'm already trying to come up with a few.  So far I have Green Tea, Blueberry, and Honey as well as Rose, Lavender, and Vanilla. I'm so excited! I also have a special one in mind for my boyfriend but I can't share it here as he reads by blog ;)
I'm hoping my mixtures come out smelling as amazing as some of the scents Fortune Cookie Soap produces.

Fortune Cookie Soap Straight On Till Morning Summer Soap Box 2015

As school lets out and the temperature rises summer is on the horizon! This month Fortune Cookie Soap is helping me prep for summer with their Peter Pan themed soap box!  This one is called Straight on Till Morning and is packed with cutely named products with a delightful summer scents!

I loved Peter Pan when I was little and was pretty pleased with the overall theme.  The scents however are not quite as up my alley as I tend to me a spring/fall scent kind of gal rather than a summer/winter.  That is not to say they aren't lovely as most of them are, I just personally don't see my self buying a ton of these like I did with Spring.

So here is the haul! This time around we got a fortune cookie soap, a perfume, a lip balm, a hand sanitizer, a salt scrub, a shower steamer, a deodorant, and a moisturizer! Yay!

Let's jump right in and start talking about the products.

First up is the most beautiful bar of soap I've ever seen in my life.  Just wow.  The galaxy pattern and glitter make this incredible.  It's almost too pretty to use....but for the sake of this review it is a sacrifice I must take!

Initial Sniff: This smells divine.  The berries are very strong and very yummy! The mint is there too but thankfully isn't too powerful. I'm not sure what pomelo is however so I can't comment on that.

In Action: These seem pretty consistent so far.  They suds up nicely and last quite a while.  I've used this one once so far and the glitter is still there, so it won't be all falling off on the first use.

Verdict: I really want to try their shampoo bars and this may be the scent I buy it in because it is one of my favorites from the collection.

Initial Sniff: Oh my goodness this smells like an extremely strong alcoholic tropical beverage. The coconut is very overpowering but is evened out a bit by the fruit.  I can't specifically smell cherries but its definitely fruity.

In Action: Even when on this still smells like an alcoholic fruity drink.  I think the sparkle factor of this one is greater than last seasons.  The glitter is more noticeable and stays on the hands for at least an hour.

Verdict: This is an interesting scent and is kinda fun since it mimics a fruity coconut daiquiri, but its not really for me. The coconut is way too sweet and strong.

Initial Sniff: This is really nice and another one of my favorites this month.  You can't go wrong with peaches and apricots, it is very pleasant. Also its lavender colored which made me smile when I opened it!

In Action: Compared to some of the stronger scented whipped creams this one does not last near as long.  I love applying this before bed because it is so light and comforting and it doesn't matter if the smell fades in 1-2 hours because I'll be fast asleep.

Verdict: I am not yet sure if I am going to get something in this scent.  I really love it but it isn't super unique.  Perhaps only if it is released as a linen spray.

So this perfume is like a mini lava lamp, its pretty cool. It separates so you shake it before use and it creates a cool bubbly, oily mix.  It really does look like a mermaid lagoon.

Initial Sniff: It seems the only scent in here is coconut which had me hesitant as the coconut in the hand santizer was pretty strong and I tend to not like strong coconut, but this is completely different.  It is light and airy and reminds me of the ocean.  I really like this.

In Action: So because I didn't read the instructions first I didn't shake this and ended up spraying blue on my arm.  So please shake it and don't stain your clothing.  Once on it leaves behind a light and pleasant coconut scent that isn't tacky or obnoxious.  It is very subtle and very summery. It lasted on me for about 3-4 hours and I think the smell gets better as it wears.

Verdict: While I really like this I'm not sure I like it enough to buy a full size.  Coconut just isn't really me.  If you do love coconut I would highly highly recommend this though.

While the tube on this is tiny it seems like there is a decent amount of product in here which is pretty neat! I just wish it was a bit pigmented.

Initial Sniff: The watermelon is very noticeable.  I can also pick up on the pineapple a bit.  It is very fresh and fruity and fun! I t kind of reminds me of PEZ. I really like it and will be throwing it in my purse as my summer travel lip balm.

In Action: It goes on a bit less smooth than I expected, however it isn't uncomfortable to apply. The watermelon scent is pleasing and fun and not too sweet and artificial. It definitely softened my lips and I'll probably use it as a base under my lipstick to keep my lips soft this summer.

Verdict:  I already have quite the lip balm collection and since there is no pigment I do not think I'd buy this. Also because of the summer theme I'd have liked to see some SPF added.  Without it, its nice and the smell is lovely but it's just not for me. I like color and sun protection too much. :P

Initial Sniff: This is kind of gross....Like...really gross. I honestly don't know how to describe this, it kind of reminds me of old soap that your grandma has kept in the cupboard for 10 years past its expiration.  I know I've tried a margarita once and hated it so maybe that's why I don't like this scent.  I'm hoping it will smell differently once I take it in the shower.

In Action: Well the scent didn't improve but I love the feel of the salt scrub.  It isn't too rough and the crystals slowly dissolve as you use it.  My hands were left nice and soft afterwards.  I asked my parents how they felt about it and they both liked it.  My mom who occasionally drinks margaritas said it smelled like one and was quite nice.  My dad who loves margaritas said it smells like perfume, haha.

Verdict: No. Just no.  I like the salt scrub but the scent is disgusting to me....however if you do like margaritas you may enjoy this way more than I did.

UPDATE: I've used half of this now and I think it smells a lot better.  Maybe only a certain note was rising to the top so that was the majority of what I smelled at first. I wouldn't buy anything with this scent but it doesn't smell as bad as previously described.

I am so excited about this!  I was just thinking about trying out an indie deodorant and now I can!  I have an issue with sweating and it sucks.  I have a prescription power roll on antiperspirant that works for 3 days.  The issue is that it has no deodorant properties and I am not allowed to pair it with other antiperspirants....so it's been sadly sitting in my closet unused. But now I'm hoping I can pair it with this and have the best of both worlds!!

Initial Sniff: From the stick this smells sort of odd. But then again I'm not a huge green apple person. It smells strange and artificial to me so I'm not really feeling it.

In Action: I rubbed this on this morning and then went to meet my mom for lunch.  the scent lasts about 1 hour and is quite subtle. I had it on for two hours and while I couldn't smell the deodorant I also couldn't smell myself which is nice. If these deodorants become a thing I may definitely pick one up.

Verdict: I love the idea of an indie deodorant but I'm not a huge fan of this scent.  If they release a deodorant line I will probably buy it in a different fragrance.  Maybe The Captain!

Initial Sniff: This smells very floral and lovely.  I love flowers and am glad at least one floral was included in this release.  Flowers, berries, and cream is like perfect for me! I love this.

In Action: I don't know why but I just cannot get these steamers to work.  I've heard of such great results from other bloggers but I get nothing.  No scent, not anything...just a shower fizz slowly fizzing down the drain.  Maybe I just don't have a shower that is suited for these....

Verdict: I will definitely be purchasing something with this scent after the release.  Perhaps a perfume!

BONUS!

The bonus this time was a red feather.  It goes with the Peter Pan theme but is a bit less useful as the butterfly from last time that is now decorating my bathroom mirror.  Oh well.  Maybe my rats will like playing with it.

I'm very excited to use my $10 off coupon included in the box and am currently planning on purchasing an item of Second Star To The Right and The Captain.  Lost boys is still up in the air.
